Toowoomba Philosophy & Book Club
Discussion Charter
Last updated: November 1, 2025
This charter keeps the group kind, on-topic, and good to return to. It tells you what you can expect, and what we ask of everyone who comes.
Your rights
- To be treated with kindness and respect.
- To be heard without interruption and to share time fairly.
- To ask honest questions and to change your mind if you hear something persuasive.
- To have ideas challenged without personal criticism.
- To a focused, safe, on-topic discussion.
- To raise concerns or suggestions privately with the organiser at yasmin@toowoombaphilosophy.com.
Our rules
- Be kind & respectful. Critique ideas, not people.
- Share the floor. Step up if you’ve been quiet; step back if you’ve spoken a lot.
- Listen before disagreeing. Try to restate what you heard before responding.
- Seek wisdom, not victory. Curiosity first. Questions before rebuttals.
- Stay on topic & one at a time. Don’t interrupt; stay with the current line of thought.
- Safety & facilitation. The organiser may pause, redirect or ask for a break to keep things constructive. Persistent breaches may mean leaving the session.
- Respect privacy and boundaries. Staying in touch is great, but please don’t use the group’s platform to organise separate events or to recruit for other groups.
- Feedback is welcome, but keep it respectful. Feel free to offer suggestions, feedback, or ideas, by speaking directly to the organiser or by email rather than interrupting the meeting.
